In today's post we will learn about another World Heritage Site in Lintong district in China. The Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor was first discovered in 1974 by local farmers.

Nearly 200 accompanying pits containing thousands of life size terracotta soldiers, terracotta horses and bronze chariots and weapons.

According to the writings of historian Sima Qian, work on the mausoleum began in 246 BCE soon after Emperor Qin ascended the throne. The project eventually involved 700,000 workers. The terracotta army figures were manufactured in workshops by government laborers and local craftsmen using local materials. Heads, arms, legs, and torsos were created separately and then assembled.
