My Birthday In Thessalonica

Long time before my birthday this year i was wondering what i really wanted to do. You see closing 35 it's something special to me. Means, like it or not , i'm in the middle (hope no :-p). So i deside to do something i have never done before. Spending my birthday alone in a place i never been before away from my family and friends trying to understand what i realy want to do for the rest of my life.

I always wanted to see some major landmarks around the world and one of them is in Thessalonica. The White Tower.The White Tower of Thessaloniki is Ottoman fortification. Probably built between 1450-1470 . Today it is considered characteristic monument of Thessalonica and is what has saved from demolished Ottoman fortifications . The current form of the medieval fortification tower replaced the 12th century , to then be used as a hotel guard Janissaries as a prison on death row . Today it operates as a museum It has 6 floors , 34 feet tall and 70 feet around. The view around the White Tower is a beautiful place to start your day.

Another place you should visit in thessalonica is for sure Aristotelous Square. Around there you will find a lot of shops for your purchases and coffee shops to enjoy your hot coffee or your snack. Why i said hot coffee ? Well if you visit Thessalonica in winter time you should definently need warm clothes and hot coffee!!! Thessalonica is cold in winter but more amazing.

Staying in Thessalonica it's not diffucult or expensive be sure to find a hotel located in Egnantias or Tsimiski Street and you will be exacly in the center.

Macedonia Airport is about one hour away from the city center. You can use the buses routes from the airport to the city center for about 1 euro.
